Kitty Surgeries

Ahsoka

Jan. 2021

Ahsoka started to have a large side that expanded and I had no clue what was going on.
At first I was concerned it could have been a swollen liver or spleen, but finally I got her in to see a Vet.
Turns out it was Pyometra!

Pyometra is a secondary infection that occurs as a result of hormonal changes in the female's reproductive tract. Following estrus (heat), the hormone progesterone remains elevated for up to two months and causes the lining of the uterus to thicken in preparation for pregnancy.

This is a common enough occurrence that most people get their kitties fixed ASAP. Also nobody wants to deal with Kittens. Luckily I only have two girls, and a very empty wallet. I put off getting them fixed but poor Ahsoka’s body said NOPE!

They removed a two pound uterus. Both before and after pictures are below to show just how much she had swollen. My poor baby was super clingy of course, and they split her open as far as they could. (End photo) The stitches were inner with a LOT of glue to keep her together. The skin was super red and I panicked thinking there could be internal bleeding. I was just a worried cat mom. She was bruised from the surgery, but it was a long two-week recovery.

I’d show you guys the “now” pictures but she’s fully grown fuzzy and you can’t see a thing! Thankfully.

Yui

My other baby had no issues causing her to need to be fixed ASAP. So we got her in August 2nd 2021. She’s still in recovery, but she’s been the biggest baby about it.

I’ve never heard a cat whine and scream and cry like a toddler before…

She’s a little on the dramatic side where as Ahsoka was just a big clingy baby. Yui had a smaller cut, but it protrudes a lot more having the inner stitches as well within a small section.

Glad to have them both finally be finished, but what a ride…

Yui would throw temper tantrums and she still “Yells” at me a lot, but she’s totally fine.

And…

Alright Fur Moms. YES each process was stressful, but I think it was worse with Ahsoka knowing she had a much more major surgery. Yui was more of a…not so serious, yet WILD card. I love our Vet, they have always taken care of my girls since I brought Ahsoka to them in January.

Best part is that both operations were about the same price. Ahsoka’s was only $5 more even though she had to have her full uterus removed while infected. So I didn’t get overcharged at all for the operation. Yui’s was just a tiny bit less. SCORE!

Now that the biggest worry I’ve had for the two of them is taken care of I don’t have to worry about them ever being uncomfortable ever again. They are indoor only cats and I like it that way.

The stress is over. Now I can focus on keeping them healthy and happy.
