Mountain Home

You guys have always asked about the Mountain Home.

So here’s some pictures from when we got here in November, and a few Jan. 2022 pics to show the Winter side and why I’m not currently there.

First and foremost we’ve had this property since I was eight years old. I’m currently thirty-three. So this place has been pieced together for a few decades and looks like some post-apocalyptic home. We haven’t built anything with the intent on making it pretty, only utility/efficiency.

We are also 50 miles from the nearest big city. There’s no delivery of any kind and of course barely internet. Which makes everything harder, but also AMAZING because we can’t be bothered on our Private Property. Perfect for Vel.

Paved Road

The first half of the journey is over a small mountain with a paved road. It’s just very curvy.

Other Side

When you come down the other side you can see the small valley before the big climb up the next mountain.

Paved to Dirt

The paved road stops, and we begin on the dirt road mid-way through the valley.

Hello

Often they leave loads of cattle that are free range along the bottom part of the mountain to graze. Here’s a calf, they are completely used to cars driving by.

Post-Fire

The lower half of the mountains dealt with Fire Damage this year. This is what the devastation looks like after it’s over.

Higher Up

This is what it normally looks like before the Fires. This photo is higher up and the plants here were unaffected.

Brushy

It can get pretty thick in certain areas.

From the Gate

There’s a collection of different buildings, but our gate lies before a very steep hill.

Cabin

Our cabin was pretty much built around an OLD trailer that came with the property. It’s completely built to withstand the elements, and it does.

Garage

Dad getting out of the truck, but behind him is the garage which houses tools and dirt bikes.

Behind the Cabin

Behind there’s the Jeep dad uses to get up the mountain during the winter time. And further back is a power-house. It keeps inverters, generators, batteries, solar panels, and all those things regulated.

Left Side Cabin

Inside is the “Patio” area which is currently closed. A long table for computers, a washer and dryer in the back, and right up front is the small fire place.

Cabin Front

This is the front area where a wall was removed so that the living space would be less congested. Although I don’t have a picture, we put my futon to the right and it fits perfectly.

Right Side Cabin

This side is the original trailer, so it has everything else. Bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen.

Autumn Leaves

This shows the beauty of Autumn next to the Workshop. You can see the Water House in the back.

Behind me, in the corner dad kept his 80’s stereo, which actually still works! And it can get loud.

Water House

Here’s the water pump which directs water to our many containers around the property. Having plumbing is pretty epic.

There’s the water tank, which is full and holds perfectly clean and filtered water.

Looking Back

From the top of the mountain we can see down into the valley we crossed, and the nasty smog down in the big city area.

Winter 1

There’s the Jeep! Dad made it up not long ago to pick up some items for his work. He’s parked down by the Workshop and looking up at the Cabin/Garage.

And there are no more autumn leaves…but it’s still pretty.

There will be more when we eventually move to Video Logs, but I’ll try to keep up where pictures are concerned. It’s beautiful, quiet, and although we only really get three seasons it’s a nice place to get away.

When is the official move?

As soon as the Snow melts it’ll be a project for this Spring/Summer. We’ve gotta find room to put my junk from storage. There’s plenty of space, but we have to bring everything up in small trips with a little trailer.

2022 is gonna be busy and totally worth it!
